Yardlight, a product of MASONBYTE LLC · Accokeek, Maryland
Posted 29 August 2026 — under review.
The short version
Yardlight is an AI help widget that answers questions about the product it is embedded in. It has no accounts, no sign-in, and no database. There is nothing to log into and nothing of yours kept afterwards.
There are no cookies, no analytics, no trackers, and no advertising. We do not sell or share your data. When you close the tab, the conversation is gone — Yardlight has no memory of it and no way to look it up later.
The two ways you might meet Yardlight
This matters, because the answer to "whose policy applies" is different in each:
- On this site. If you use the demo on yardlight.app, this policy is the one that applies.
- Inside somebody else's product. Yardlight is built to be embedded in other applications. When you meet it there, that product's own privacy policy governs your data — Yardlight is a component of it, and the company running that product decides what it is connected to. This policy tells you how the component itself behaves.
What happens when you ask a question
Your question, and up to the last ten turns of that same conversation, are sent to our answer service, which passes them to the model provider that writes the reply. That is the whole journey. Specifically:
| What | Why | What happens to it |
|---|---|---|
| Your question, and the recent turns of the conversation | So the answer makes sense in context. | Sent to the model provider to compose a reply. Not stored by us. |
| Your IP address | To limit how many questions one source can send in a minute, so the service is not trivially overloaded. | Held in memory only, briefly, by whichever server instance took the request. Never written to a database and never used to build a profile. |
| The length of your question and of the answer | So we can see the service is working without reading what people asked. | Written to our server logs as a number. The text itself is never logged. |
The conversation is held in your own browser's memory for as long as the page is open, and sent with each new question so the reply has context. Nothing is written to your device and nothing is kept on ours.
What we do not collect
- No account, name, or email address. Yardlight has no sign-in.
- No cookies and no local storage. That is why there is no banner to dismiss before you can read this.
- No analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising of any kind, first- or third-party.
- No location. We never ask for it and never read your device's GPS.
- No payment details. There is nothing to buy here.
- No conversation history between visits. Yardlight cannot recognise you, and cannot recall an earlier conversation — not as a setting, but because no such record is created.
Please do not type secrets into a help box
Yardlight is asked to refuse passwords, codes, and payment details, and it never asks for them. But it is a text box that sends what you type to a model provider, so the honest advice is the same as for any support chat: do not paste passwords, card numbers, or information you would not want leaving your screen. If you need to change something on your account, Yardlight will point you to where you can do it yourself — it has no ability to make the change for you.
Who helps run it
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. Two companies are involved in answering a question:
- Anthropic — the model provider that writes the reply. Your question and the recent conversation turns are sent to its API to be answered. Your browser never talks to it directly; the request goes through our service, and our API key never reaches your device.
- Netlify — hosts this website and runs the answer service.
They hold only what they need to do that job, and neither receives your data for advertising.
When Yardlight is switched off
Yardlight ships inert and is turned on deliberately. On a given deployment it may be disabled (it answers nothing), in dry-run (your question is received and checked but no model is called at all), or live. In the first two states nothing is sent to any model provider.
Children
Yardlight is a product-support tool for the people who use an application. It is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Where Yardlight is embedded in a product that has a children's side, it is placed only on the adult-facing part — for example, in Eden's Play Garden it may appear on the parents' hub and never on the child-facing app.
Your choices
Because nothing is stored, most of the usual requests have nothing to act on — there is no account to export, correct, or close. Closing the tab ends the conversation and leaves nothing behind. If you have a question about your data, or you met Yardlight inside another product and want to know what that company keeps, write to us and we will help you find the right answer.
How long we keep it
Questions and answers: not kept at all. They are not written to any database. Server logs record the length of a question and answer and are retained by our hosting provider for its normal, limited period; they contain no conversation text.
Changes to this policy
If Yardlight starts doing something this page does not describe — storing conversations, adding data tools that read your account, or anything similar — this policy is updated before that ships, not after, with a new effective date.
